Bachelor Party Tulum Style: How to Let Loose Like a Mayan King
Ah, Tulum – the jewel of the Mexican Caribbean, a place where the waves whisper tales of ancient Mayan ruins and the sand dances under the moonlight. Planning a bachelor party here?
As a seasoned expert in crafting international bachelor and bachelorette party experiences, it's my pleasure to touch on one of Mexico's most sensational destinations for pre-wedding celebrations. From pristine beaches and boho hotels to vibrant nightlife and thrilling excursions, this coastal paradise offers everything you need for an epic getaway with your closest friends.
Whether you're the best man, a groomsman, or the lucky groom himself, gearing up for a Tulum bachelor party is like prepping for the launch of Apollo 11 – thrilling, historic, and a tad nerve-wracking. But fear not, my party astronauts, for I come bearing the blueprint to a successful liftoff into matrimonial bliss.
The Tulum Vibe
Imagine a place where the jungle meets the ocean. Where the night sky is a canvas painted with stars so close you could almost touch them. Tulum is not just a destination; it's a vibe. With its pristine beaches, emerald waters, and an ambiance that screams 'party', it's no wonder Tulum has become the go-to spot for bachelor parties. This town encapsulates the essence of celebration, blending the right amount of relaxation with wild party nights. Think endless days under the sun transitioning into moonlit parties by the beach – it’s the perfect send-off into the married world.
How to get there:
Your adventure begins as you touch down at Cancun International Airport. I would normally recommend setting up a private transportation service for your group ahead of time with companies like USA Transfers. I also know a great private driver for smaller arrivals or 1 or 2 people. Expect roughly a 2 hour journey along the highway (depending on traffic)
Or opt for the newly opened international airport in Tulum, a mere 40 minutes from centro Tulum. Flights should become more available from the US in the next few months.
Daytime Celebrations
The heart of any Tulum bachelor party beats strongest by the shore. Beach clubs here offer more than just great views; they're party havens where music, drinks, and vibes flow as freely as the tequila. Get adventurous with water sports or chill out with a cold one in hand – the day is yours to seize. Below are some of my top recommendations.
This region of Mexico is known for their natural freshwater pools called Cenotes, where you can snorkel, swim, and just chill out to take it all in. For an adventurous twist, venture to Buuts Ha cenote, known for its crystal-clear waters and stunning rock formations. Complete with a bar to make tropical drinks and a restaurant for some bites, this Cenote has become a popular spot for music events during the season. It also offers a little cliff jumping experience for those who are feeling froggy (maybe a 20 to 30 foot jump or so)
Beach Clubs - If you’re in Tulum to party and you crave music and energy all day, then the beach clubs are where you’ll likely find your happy place. Venues like Taboo, Tantra, Vagalume, Delek, and Papaya Playa Project are typically the most active during the day.
Another great daytime activity is to get out on the beautiful blue water of the Caribbean Sea. About a 35 minute drive from Tulum is Puerto Aventuras Marina and is the closest location where you can charter a yacht for the day. There are a few companies that offer private rentals or single tickets to a public event. Usually these are 4 hour cruises that will include lunch, snacks, open bar, fun music and snorkeling at multiple locations in the area.
Playa Paraiso - If you’re seeking a more chill and low key beach day, I would recommend heading in the opposite direction of the hotel zone about 10-15 minutes to Playa Paraiso, which is a popular beach among locals. Here is where you can find cheap massages, great drinks and hotel daybeds to lay out with no food or drink minimum spends.
Xcaret Park - for groups who want a little thrill and adventure, Xcaret is an amusement park and hotel brand that can be sort of compared to our DisneyWorld. They have 7 different parks and experiences that range from water based activities, to high flying zip lines, eco-archeological attractions, and even a night time only park for adrenaline seekers.
Nightlife Hotspots
As the sun bows down, Tulum's nightlife takes the throne. From beach bars that keep the party spirit alive with toes in the sand to rooftop lounges where the music and drinks lift you to cloud nine, the night is young and full of possibilities. Places like Bonbonniere Tulum not only promise a night of exhilarating music and dance but also an opportunity to mingle with fellow nocturnal creatures. The key? Start your night with a sumptuous dinner at spots celebrated for their local flavors, then dive headfirst into the night – it’s vibrant, it's lively, and it awaits your toast.
Some of my favorite restaurants: Casa Banana, Arca, Hartwood, Rosa Negra, Gitano, Bagatelle, Illios
*Rosa Negra, Gitano, Bagatelle and Illios are all dinner spots that turn into a high energy party
After dinner the night continues with a few spots on the beach, however, there have been recent ordinances put in place that shuts down the party at 1am. For ‘afters’ you could venture over to Centro (the actual town of Tulum) where there are a few venues that stay open late.
Nightlife in Tulum: Vagalume, Bonbonniere, and Papaya Playa Project
When some of the biggest DJs and festivals are in town, you can expect to dance until the sunrise at live music venues such as Zamna and Tehmplo
For ‘afters’ in Centro, check out Santino Bar and La Guardia
Accommodation Tips
Where you lay your head in Tulum can make or break the party experience. Opt for beachfront villas for a private retreat or boutique hotels that cater to every whim. Luxury resorts with group discounts can offer the best of both worlds – comfort and cost-effectiveness. Remember, booking early is key to snagging the best spots. Look for accommodations that align with your party’s vibe – whether it’s a laid-back beach house or a high-end hotel with all the perks.
While it's not your boutique boho hideaway that you may associate with Tulum, for groups who look for value and convenience, the new Secrets Tulum is an adults-only all-inclusive resort nestled within the Aldea Zama community, located about 15 mins from the beach.
They do offer a complimentary shuttle to and from their private beach club, which is a huge savings in Taxi costs…which can be insanely expensive in Tulum.
*For those seeking the best of both worlds, consider the resort's exclusive 4-bedroom private villa located in the heart of Tulum beach, above the resort’s private beach club, offering unparalleled ocean views and privacy for your bachelor party group.
For a true ‘Tulum experience’, check into Casa Malca, a lavish estate once owned by Pablo Escobar, now transformed into a chic beachfront retreat. While the beachfront chill vibes here are arguably the best in Tulum, it comes with a pretty decent price tag, as this hotel is one of the most expensive in the area.
Some other hotel recommendations on Tulum Beach are: Kanan (adults only), Coco Tulum, Delek Tulum, Be Tullum
